Featured: Samsung Galaxy Player 5.8 becomes official, with ICS and huge 2500mAh battery

After the verdict from the Samsung vs. Apple trial last Friday, Samsung is wasting no time in getting new devices out there. Today Samsung announced their new Galaxy Player with a 5.8″ screen, yes that is 5.8-inches. This PMP device is huge; it’s a full inch larger than Samsung’s current flagship device, the Galaxy S3 which sits at 4.8-inches.

The Galaxy Player 5.8 features a 960×540 resolution, yes it does sound like a very poor resolution but remember they need to keep this thing affordable since there are no carriers or contracts involved. The Galaxy Player runs on Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich, along with the latest version of Touchwiz (despite that patent trial). Storage is either 16GB or 32GB but there is also a MicroSD card slot, so you can put it up to 64GB if needed. The Galaxy Player also features a VGA camera on the front and a 2500mAh battery. Which seeing as there’s no LTE, and no carrier radios, that battery should last a few days on heavy use.

While I, and many others, question the success of the Galaxy Player lineup from Samsung, they must be doing pretty alright to keep launching new Galaxy Players. We’re also expecting to see this new Galaxy Player 5.8 at IFA this week, along with the very much anticipated Galaxy Note 2. Are any of readers looking to purchase the Galaxy Player?
