Google TV has had its ups and downs over the year. What was first shown as a very promising platform that would revolutionize the TV industry and would make up for the majority of TVs sold according to Eric Schmidt, just hasn’t reached that notoriety. Part of this problem was rather underpowered hardware as well as software that received very few updates and overall changes.
Thing is, Google TV has a ton of potential, but it seems Google has had their mind and efforts focused on a number of other areas. This was definitely evidenced back in June during Google I/O when there wasn’t a single announcement about the platform. If the tech giant has something important to announce, you can be sure they’ll be talking about it at their official event.
Anyways, one very promising Google TV box, the Vizio Co-Star, is getting to customers which is a great sign. Last month, Vizio launched the Co-Star seemingly out of thin air for $99 and quickly went on to sell out in less than 12 hours. Vizio didn’t really give any tech specs at the time, but for $99 and what was being talked about, it seemed like a good gamble.
Since customers have started to get their hands on it, they’ve come to find out that the Co-Star packs a 1.2GHZ dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, and 4GB internal storage. Pretty impressive and sounds like there won’t be any problem in terms of performance. Also, 4GB is plenty of storage to install games and other apps.
If you ordered the Vizio Co-Star, definitely expect to see yours here very soon. They promised to ship them out the second half of August and so far looks like they’re living up to that promise. In the meantime, there’s no video up yet showing the Co-Star in action, though we did find an unboxing which you can check out below.
