MIUI, the custom ROM that I’m sure many of you have tried out of curiosity have had real, shipping phones for quite some time now, in the form Mi phones. Whilst these devices are, of course, primarily marketed for the Chinese market, it’s hard to deny that their phones seem to be seriously powerful and at a wallet-friendly price tag as well. The Xiomi Phone 2, which was recently announced, packs a quad-core Snapdragon S4, 2GB of RAM, a 4.3″ IPS HD display as well as Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. All, for $310. That’s right, all of that power for $310, it’s not all you’ll be getting though, as Xiaomi are throwing in a sizable 2,000 maH battery with the option for a 3,000 maH battery, sure to keep all you road warriors out there happy. None of this is going to be as impressive to you as it would if you lived in China, which I’m sure many of you reading this, aren’t.
If you’re in Europe however – like I am – then there might be some good news for you. At an event which the Xiaomi Phone 2 was shown off to thousands of press, Engadget were told that the manufacturer looks to bring the MIUI-packing phones to Europe, soon. Of course, definitions of “soon” vary and as such us Europeans could be waiting a long time yet, Engadget have reason to believe that it could be before the end of Q2 2013. It makes sense, seeing as the company will most likely get the phones out there before another August announcement rolls round again. Xiaomi is also doing the rounds in Taiwan, consulting with carriers in order to get them in the hands of more average consumer types as well. Making the push into the European wireless market a little easier.
The US Mobile Industry however, may prove a little too difficult for the Chinese manufacturer as there are no plans to bring the device state side just yet, with no wiff off them either. Which is a real shame, as more choice isn’t going to hurt the market, after all, I hear there’s a carrier in fourth place that could do with some more devices to bolster its line up. Without breaking the bank, either, these devices could well be perfect for a carrier like T-Mobile in the states, of course, there’d have to be a magenta colour on offer, right? Somehow, I don’t think that’d be a problem for the Chinese.
