So we’ve finally caught our breathe on the huge Motorola and Verizon event from this afternoon, where the Droid Razr M, Droid Razr HD and Droid Razr Maxx HD were all announced. Also Eric Schmidt from Google let us know that we are at 1.3 million Android activations every day. Now it’s on to the next event, which is tomorrow in Los Angeles, and it’s Amazon’s turn.
We’ve known for a while that Amazon is planning to announce the next iteration of their very successful Kindle Fire. But we’ve now heard that Amazon is announcing 2 different devices tomorrow. Another rumor told us that we would be seeing two different 7-inch devices and the 10-inch devices would be shown off closer to the holiday season. That leads us to what The Verge was able to confirm, and that is Amazon is working on their own smartphone. It is not done yet. So don’t expect a release date if we do see a prototype tomorrow.
These devices are expected to be running Android 4.0 based Kindle Fire Software. We know the original Kindle Fire is running Android, but it doesn’t look like Android to the average user. So how can an Android 4.0 based Kindle Fire OS compare and compete with tablets like the Nexus 7, ASUS’ Transformer tablets and even the Galaxy Note 10.1? Since it won’t have any Google Services, and you’d be stuck with the Amazon App Store.
So who’s looking forward to tomorrow’s announcement? Who’s ready to upgrade their Kindle Fire?
