The Kindle Fire has always been border line as an Android tablet. To the average consumer, the Kindle Fire does not look, act or even feel like Android, but the device’s OS uses Android as a base. Now earlier this week Amazon announced a few new devices in Santa Monica, CA which included an upgraded Kindle Fire 2, and introduced the Kindle Fire HD which comes in 7-inch, 8.9-inch and LTE flavors. Amazon touted that the Kindle Fire Family is based off of Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich, so who would be the default search engine on the device?
Well naturally all of us thought it would be Google, since it is running a forked version of Android 4.0. But shortly after the event on Thursday the press that was at the event got a little hands-on time with the new devices, Ubergizmo noticed that the default search engine was set to Bing. So we’ve got a forked over version of Android, no Google maps and no Google Search by default, and no Google Play instead Amazon only has their AppStore on the device. So can we really call this an Android tablet now?
Shortly after the announcement of the new Kindle Fire family I asked some of my followers on Google+ if they would buy the new Kindle Fire and not a single person said yes.
