If you’re the type of user that wants the latest and greatest when it comes to hardware as well as software then chances are you’ve been a big fan of CyanogenMod for a long time. For those of you who aren’t familiar with CyanogenMod – all two of you – it’s an aftermarket distribution of Android that puts the best from the Android Open Source Project with tweaks from the developer community. In many cases it’s your only shot if you want the most up-to-date experience when it comes to Android and often, your only shot if you want an update at all.
Development on the latest release – CM10 – has been coming along nicely and now, alongside the bleeding-edge nightlies the team is announcing monthly releases. Presenting you with a perfect option if you want to keep nice and relevant without running the risk of an unstable phone. I’m sure many of you are wondering what’s the point of a monthly release when you could just use alpha builds and nightlies and well, these monthly builds will provide a good reference for developers but a stable and current build at the same time. It’s the perfect middleground for users that want the latest but also a stable phone – me. I love having the latest and greatest tweaks and patches, I find the whole thing fascinating and I have done ever since I swapped to Android but, I really can’t random reboots and hangs so, this is going to be something I’ll be keeping my eye on.
