So you’ve all heard about Google’s Project Glass right? Well if not check out Google’s demo of Project Glass at Google I/O back in late June of this year. Now a Google Glass alternative has popped up, and it’s from UK-based TTP.
As you can tell in the picture above, TTP’s glass alternative appears to look a bit better than Google’s Project Glass which is still early in development. But that’s not all thats different in this glass alternative. TTP also uses a micro-projector in one arm of the glasses, it beams an image using a mirror onto a special reflective pattern etched into the lenses of the glasses.
So basically you’ll get an image in front of you that blends in with what your looking at, and acts like a tiny little projector and your the only one that can see it.
Currently TTP’s glass alternative has some limitations, Right now the projected technique used in these glasses only shows a monochrome image with a low 640 x 480 resolution, still video. The developers creating these glasses say that new hardware is coming in the next few weeks. This new hardware will enhance it’s features including adding moving video.
In the next couple years, TTP will probably end up being the way to go. We are expecting Google Glass to be pretty expensive, at I/O the Explorer Edition of Google Glass was on sale for $1,500. Most of us can’t afford that. We have no idea what TTP will cost but hopefully it’ll be a bit cheaper and cost effective. We’ll find out over the next couple of years.
