Apparently, Intel has a knack for being slow in getting their chips into smartphones. Today is a good day as they have finally completed the port to Jellybean 4.1! Should we be celebrating?
Intel has only thus far been supporting Android 2.3 and Android 4.0, which to me seem ancient even though Jellybean 4.0 wasn’t that long ago. Hopefully chips will be upgrading from ARM processors to the Intel Medfield atom chips. However, there are still great ARM processors out there. Rumor is that several Intel employees including the Vice President and General manager are already opertating phones with the Mefield chip already in them.
The worst part of this is that yes it’s a newer and improved chip, but Intel can’t put the chip into the devices themselves. They have to go through the carriers, who then have to do their own testing of the chip to make sure it meet their qualifications. Surprise!! Carriers always throw their own twist into the mix!
A rumor is floating around that the new UK Motorola RZR M will be a “carrier” of Intel. Again, I’m not sure whether to be excited or sad. I’ll leave that up to the readers to share their thoughts and opinions with us.
Intel has also made a statement about having us “on edge” when September 18th rolls around. I wonder what they will have in store for us? Intel is definitely not the big dog in the processor area when it comes to mobile phones, it will be interesting to see how this pans out for them.
