Yesterday the LG Optimus G was announced with some rather drool worthy specs. The device is going on sale next week in Korea, then hitting key global markets in October. The Associated Press reported that the Optimus G would hit the US in November as the LG Eclipse 4G LTE, and you know how I hate when manufacturers bring the exact same phone to a US carrier and change the name to something different. A good example is the LG Optimus Vu/LG Intuition (Verizon). But we’ll get into that at another time.
In case you are living under a rock and missed the news of the LG Optimus G, we’ve got the specs for you below:

So could it be a LG Nexus? The guys over at Androidandme have some thoughts on that. Now these are the same guys who have gotten every Nexus correct so far, so what they say is probably true. Earlier this year, we heard a rumor that Google would put out 5 Nexus devices this year, and that there would be more than just one OEM producing these Nexus’ devices. Now anyone that has ever used a LG device knows that their skin is not that obtrusive, and it shouldn’t be too hard to swap it out for some AOSP Android. So how about the LG Optimus G as the Nexus G from LG? It could work, and definitely put the manufacturer back in the game with Samsung. Also LG and Qualcomm have an event going on tomorrow in New York City, so we should get some insight on carriers, pricing, launch dates, or maybe a Nexus announcement?
I’m not sure about everyone else out there, but I’d like to see another manufacturer get into the Nexus program. We’ve seen the original Nexus come from HTC, then the following two came from Samsung. Let’s bring some LG, Motorola, and Sony Nexus devices out.
