Smartphones and tablets have huge potential for use in business and it’s only now that it’s starting to trickle into the mainstream. With mobile payments like Google Wallet finally taking a hold across the US and everyone else clamoring for their piece of the mobile payment pie. With all these advances coming, we’ve yet to see something that I’ve been wanting to see for some time now – a mobile point-of-sale. Tablets provide consumers a great option to pay and I’m sure many business would like to have a clean shop with only a handful of POSs and more of these mobile ones.
Enter the TazPad V2 – it’s a 7″ tablet that isn’t geared up like your normal tablet and whilst it may look a lot like a Galaxy tab of old, it’s a whole new thing altogether. With it’s 1.2Ghz Cortex-A8 CPU, 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage it’s not going to blow you away but there is a 5,500 maH battery on board as well as 5 and 2 MP cameras. What makes this little guy stand out from the rest is the onboard is a fingerprint scanner and heavy security that’s been certified by MasterCard to name but one.
The idea is that this will serve as a payment method in stores with NFC onboard – at a secure level – and Android 4.0 running the show. I’ve been wondering when something like this will appear and honestly, it’s a shame to see it so poorly implemented as those specs are hardly going to be winning any prizes. It’s certainly going to be interesting to see if this makes it stateside but it’s currently undergoing trials in parts of Europe.
