It’s been a long time coming, but the day is finally here. If you live in Sweden that is. And I don’t… so… WHAT THE HELL ASUS??? Yes, that is right. Our favorite tablet from back in the day of 201, the Asus Transformer Prime, (Asus also once flagship device from their transformer tablet line) is finally getting Jelly Bean 4.1 pushed to it. Only the Swedish version though. This will be the very first 4.1 over the air software push for the prime, although its predecessor the Transformer Pad 300 had already gotten it months ago.
Over on the Facebook page of Asus Sweden they mention that the update will regrettably kill flash support to the device but those wonderful guys over at Asus made sure to add in the link to download the flash app over at Adobe site. Rather nice fellows they are over there. Now if the rest of the world’s prime owners could just get some love we’d all be at peace. In any case this is a surefire example of whats to come if you own a transformer prime. Mine has been, and this hurts me to say, sitting on my bedside table in docked and closed position. If this update indicates we can expect a jelly bean update ourselves soon then my prime just might be newly rejuvenated and reborn.
Besides the flash support being killed off, (for obvious reasons) Asus also states that WiFi direct is eliminated after the update. If you are someone who currently uses this feature and a lot of it, it might be best to hold off on the update for now, or whenever we get it if you’re outside Sweden. I never used WiFi direct myself and actually could never get it working with anyone else. So I say good riddance.
One thing is for sure. After seeing this, hope is renewed for my prime tablet and I know that the update is on the horizon for other users around the world. I will now commence checking my tablet for software updates multiple times daily to see when it will be coming to my device. What about the rest of you users out there? Has the transformer prime craze come and gone for you guys? Has the Nexus 7 taken over as tablet o choice? I can say that I certainly use my Nexus 7 a lot more but it is out of sheer portability and gaming power. I actually prefer the prime for everything else. So this is good news. Very good news. Thank you Asus for keeping your word.
