Well here’s something you don’t hear everyday. One of the biggest, if not the biggest, Prepaid carrier in the US is supposedly having talks with T-Mobile, Sprint and Dish network over a potential merger or buyout. Now MetroPCS isn’t particularly a small carrier, it has over 10 million subscribers. The telecommunications carrier has also been able to keep up with the “big boys” with LTE and VoLTE coming soon. MetroPCS also recently released a plan that’s $55 a month and includes unlimited LTE, which is great to see since they have more LTE markets than Sprint does currently.
While we hate to see another carrier getting bought out or merging, I’d like to see MetroPCS merge with T-Mobile. With their LTE already rolling out in some areas, it could give T-Mobile a bit of a jump start with their non-existent LTE network which is due to start rolling out next year.
I also can’t see anything bad about Sprint merging or even buying MetroPCS. It’s actually more likely to happen since both carriers utilize the CDMA technology, and are both actively rolling out 4G LTE. The next question would be, is MetroPCS going to hang out with Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile as Sprint’s Prepaid carriers?
But Dish Network buying MetroPCS? That’s something I never thought about. Any MetroPCS customers out there want to let your thoughts be known about a potential buyout?
