Featured: T-Mobile working on releasing SIM card for ISIS launch in Austin and Salt Lake City

With the recent news of the ISIS Mobile Wallet system launch being pushed back until October now, it gives T-Mobile a bit more time to get their SIM card ready. ISIS is set to launch in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City, Utah next month. The head of Marketing for ISIS, Jaymee Johnson, didn’t state why the program had been pushed back for the second time this year, but he did comment on the progress of the system.

“We are wrapping things up and finishing that final punch list of items,” he said, adding that the company’s partnerships for the service had not changed.

Johnson also stated that it would have hundreds of merchants on it’s side when it finally does launch in the two test cities, Austin and Salt Lake City, with the number increasing to thousands of partners later on. Some of the partners ISIS already has on board include, American Express, JP Morgan Chase and Capital One Financial.

Now onto T-Mobile’s part in all of this. T-Mobile has said that customers will be able to pick up ISIS-enabled SIM cards from T-Mobile retail stores in Austin, Texas and Salt Lake City, Utah, it does sound like they will not be available on the carrier’s website. Right now there are only a few devices supported, the HTC Amaze 4G, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy S II are set as the launch devices, but we are expecting magenta to announce some more devices in the future.

So what’s your take on ISIS? Can it really be a Google Wallet alternative? They are already making it hard for that to happen since the system keeps getting pushed back. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
