Android is mostly known for its use in tablets, smartphones, TVs, set-top boxes, and more, but there aren’t too many all in one displays that are powered by Android. Viewsonic is apparently getting on the action and it’s been confirmed that their 22 inch Android Smart Display, dubbed the oh so attraction “VCD22”, will be available in the United States come October for $399.
The price isn’t too bad actually considering the specs, but is there demand for such a device? It’s all a matter of debate at this point. Most home users don’t want an all in one PC that happens to be multi-touch, but that’s exactly the point. My opinion is the Android Smart Display will be more appealing to businesses and retail than it will be for the home market. Then again, we’ll see.
Here’s the specs:
- 22 inch 1,920 x 1080 full HD display
- 1GHZ TI OMAP 4428 dual-core processor
- 1GB RAM
- 1.2 megapixel webcam with built-in microphone
- micro HDMI port, three USB, microSD card slot, ethernet port, WiFi
- 8GB internal storage
- Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
The display will be available in mid to late October. Since it has an HDMI port, it will also function as a display. Below is a hands on video that shows off the display and performance. Do you think there’s a market for something like this or would you buy something like this yourself?
