One of the bigger brands when it comes to consumer security, McAfee is something that you come across regularly throughout the internet. Quite often, it’s a stamp on a web page telling you that it’s secure. Personally, I don’t much buy into it but I can’t deny that the brand has some real strength to it for sure. Their Android offering however, isn’t as good as it could be. There’s a lot that the app does, sure, but you never really get the feeling that it does all of them as well as it’s other jobs. It’s a solid offering and will get the job done just don’t expect all the bells and whistles.

This is one of the better security apps available for Android, it’s got all the bells and whistles of the big boys but it pulls them off with a stunning interface. Honesly, the interface here is one of the best. It’s simple and easy to get around the app but it still feels powerful in the palm of your hand as well. There’s recently been an added call & SMS filter feature added. A really good offering from a developer that has a good number of great Android utilities as well.
6. Norton AntiVirus & Security
If there’s one name that’s ubiquitous amongst the security vendors then it’s Norton. You see boxes and boxes of the software piled up in Best Buy etc. Is it any better on Android than it is on Windows? Well, yes actually, there are a number of options that are particularly useful to us Android users and for once, it doesn’t get in your way all that much. If you’re looking for something that does everything but doesn’t overwhelm you then this a good choice.
5. Kaspersky Mobile Security
Now, I don’t use Windows a lot but when I do it’s for games or on machines of my girlfriend. I either use this or Microsoft’s own virus solution when I absolutely have to use Windows. That and whenever I need to play a proper game. You’d have thought that what makes it good on the Desktop would be lost when coming to Android but, thankfully a lot of what makes it great has made the jump. There’s still a unique and clean interface here and there are some powerful scanning options here too. A word of warning though, don’t use the SIM watch tool – come out of coverage and it’ll think you have no SIM.
4. Trust Go Antivirus & Mobile Security
This is a fantastic offering for smartphones. Everything about the app is geared for smartphones and the emphasis on your personal identity. You can even control what apps have access to what, perfect if you’re convince Facebook is out to get you – like we all are. There’s powerful scanning options here and there’s also a cloud backup option direct to Trust Go’s servers – whether or not you use it is your risk. However, the app looks solid and works fantastically. An antivirus solution geared for a phone.

3. avast! Mobile Security
You’d think that an antivirus app for Android would really struggle to become popular but, with over 130,000 reviews avast seems to be pretty popular to me! For good reason, there’s a tablet app as well as a phone app which is saying a lot already because let’s face it – a lot of us are using our tablets like we did our old laptops and so, why shouldn’t we have the same protection. There’s a good looking yet clean interface here and everything runs smoothly. Try it out and see why so many people think it’s so good.

2. Lookout Security & Antivirus
If you thought avast! was popular then this will blow you away – over 300,000 reviews and counting for an antivirus app and yet it still rates as 4 and a ½ star app, that’s insanse! Especially for an app that’s really rather mundane when you think about it. There’s so much on offer here though, that it’s easy to see why. There’s a widget for quick and easy access, a detailed website to find your stolen or lost phone and serious power behind virus detection. Honestly, I’d be surprised if James Bond didn’t use this!

AVG has long been the best in free antivirus for Windows PCs and now it’s made the jump to Android. Bringing the same down to earth like attitude from the desktop to our beloved phones. Making sure you’re precious phone is safe and sound! There’s a well detailed website getting you back to your lost or stolen phone and the same sort of power and precision you found on the Desktop hasn’t been lost in translation. If you’re looking for the best then this is your choice.
