Welcome to yet another installment of Carrier Weekly where we share what happened in the industry without overwhelming you. This week, Sprint rolled out 4G LTE to more markets, including new tablet data plans. The carrier was in the news the most this week, but they weren’t the only ones.
Sprint lights up LTE in Chicago suburbs and other markets
Sprint is a bit behind competitors since switching to LTE earlier this year, but they continue to roll out blazing fast speeds to more markets. This time, LTE made its way to Chicago suburbs and several other places such as Wichita Falls, Texas and a few others. Source
WIND Mobile “is not currently engaged in any active merger discussion”
WIND Mobile in Canada was said to be merging with VimpelCom Group, but that was quickly shot down by the CEO. The carrier currently has 500,000 subscribers and is expecting to add another 100,000 by the end of the year. Source
Sprint Intros A Bunch Of New Tablet Data Plans
Starting November 11th, Sprint will be launching several new tablet data plans for both 3G and 4G speeds. There’s several options to choose from. For example, if you’re a Sprint smartphone subscriber, you can get 1GB of data for just $15 per month. Source
Orange is the first mobile carrier to allow HD voice calling between countries
Most people don’t think too much about the quality of voices coming through their phone, but Orange customers can now experience HD voice calls when making calls to 14 different countries. The technology hasn’t came to the states yet aside from the HTC EVO 4G LTE. Source
Sprint 4G LTE may not show up in NY, SF until March
Sprint is rushing to get LTE out to more markets, but unfortunately LTE might not show up to San Francisco and New York until March. March isn’t too far away, but for customers who already have LTE enabled phones, it’s definitely a setback. Source
Sprint releases Q3 2012 results
So how does the carrier stack up in this past quarter? Wireless revenue service growth was up 14% compared to the same time last year and this was the eighth consecutive quarter with double digit percentage year-over-year growth. Source
