It l0oks like the 7″ tablet is here to stay, not only in part due to the Nexus 7 but also because they’re more often than not cheaper than larger 10.1″ tablets and a whole lot more portable. Ever since the Nexus 7 hit the scene not a single manufacturer has yet – in our eyes – to come up with a tablet that could challenge it. Acer are looking to have a go with their Iconia Tab A110. Whilst the A110 has been on sale for Europe for a little while now, the company is getting ready to launch their tablet over here in the US and Canada. The Acer A110 will come packing the following:
- 1024×600 7″ LCD
- Quad-Core Tegra 3 CPU
- 1GB RAM
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
- 8GB of Storage – with microSD card slot
- Up to 7.5 hours of battery life
This is all fine and good however, the device is going to cost $229.99 and hit stores October 30th. That’s pretty expensive for what you’re getting, especially compared to the Nexus 7, sure, there’s a microSD card slot but with a 32GB version of the tablet coming soon for $249.99 the price of this with just 8GB onboard is pretty terrible really. Of course, price isn’t everything here after all, the screen resolution isn’t close to the Nexus 7’s HD 1280×800 and whilst I’m sure the Tegra 3 CPU will perform just as admirably I can’t help but think of Acer’s notoriously poor build quality. The last time Acer put a budget tablet – the A100 – it was rather poorly built, I had one for a tme and the viewing angles were terrible and it would occasionally creek as well easily become scratched.
So, whether or not people will buy the tablet is something we’ll have to wait and see but, as for Acer I’d have to say, too little, too late.
