Is anyone tired of reading about these patent wars? I know I’m tired of reading and writing about them. But unfortunately that’s part of the job. It’s also part of the technology world we now live in. The Founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos spoke with Metro, in the UK, about patent wars and how he wants the government to step in.
Patents are supposed to encourage innovation and we’re starting to be in a world where they might start to stifle innovation.
Governments may need to look at the patent system and see if those laws need to be modified because I don’t think some of these battles are healthy for society.
Jeff Bezos also said that innovation and our society has been threatened by these ongoing patent lawsuits. Bezos then added that he loves technology, invention and rapid change. Well honestly who doesn’t love technology? If you’re reading our site, then you most likely love technology almost as much as we do. Now I’d like to see the government step into these patents, but will it happen? Probably not. How can you award a patent for rounded corners?
Metro.co.uk also asked Bezos about an Amazon smartphone and he declined to comment. So perhaps an Amazon smartphone is coming soon. But with Amazon already leading the e-reader business with the Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD, and the Kindle Paperwhite, which were all announced in September, I wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon wasn’t working on a smartphone.
