If you’re a gamer, you remember Atari. You may not have had one, but you either knew someone who did or at the very least heard of its influential presence over the gaming community. Atari has been in the game making business a long time. A very long time in fact. Some of their titles are still very popular to this day. Atari has recently started making a comeback and along with there renewed creativity they are bringing with them two games to the Android platform. That’s right. Roller Coaster Tycoon and D&D: Warbands will be landing in the play store for our enjoyment. I was never a D&D fan. So I’m not sure what my judgment on this game will be just yet. But I had played a little Roller Coaster Tycoon back in the day. It had its pleasures and charms.
Roller Coaster Tycoon for those of you who aren’t aware is a sim game where you are the owner of a theme park and you have to build your attractions and roller coaster rides from the ground up and make it a booming success. It’s a world builder but obviously with a fun twist. You build roller coasters! And roller coasters are sick. They are pure fun. It gets pretty in depth, as you get to control queue lines, hiring staff and selling merch, you can even build your very own roller coaster and open it up for the first time to everybody. Once this lands I may very well give this a try. We’re looking at just a few more months out perhaps but it could be as long as 5 before we see an official release. Here’s to hoping sooner than later and if you’re into the world builders stop back by for an update on the date of release once it’s announced. Below is a little information straight from Atari about the game for you long-time fans.
“RollerCoaster Tycoon (iOS and Android, Q1 2013)
Based on the original best-selling management simulation classic which has sold more than 13 million units, RollerCoaster Tycoon is headed to iOS for the first time. As an up-and-coming tycoon, players create their own custom theme park, designing coasters and building attractions to gain new visitors and increase revenue. Players can choose from pre-designed rollercoaster templates, or design their own wild creations from scratch with the Roller Coaster Editor. With modern features like sharing coaster designs with friends, the newest version of RollerCoaster Tycoon offers an experience both long-time fans and newcomers will enjoy.”
Next game on the docket from Atari is a game called D&D: Warbands. Yes, the Dungeons and Dragons series is coming to Android. Like I said before I was never one that got into the Dungeons and Dragons games, they just never did catch my attention. Never the less, there is a very huge cult following for this series and I’m sure there will be a lot of you happy D&D fans out there. As far as I remember D&D in the past, it was a game that started out with a game board and collectible figures with dice. Im quite intrigued to see how this turns out to be something you play on a phone or tablet. Any thoughts? Heres a little tidbit from Atari.
“Dungeons & Dragons: Warbands (iPad – $2.99, December; Steam, Facebook and Android coming soon)
Dungeons and Dragons: Warbands is a turn-based strategy game set in the Forgotten Realms, and the first official Dungeons and Dragons title ever to hit iOS devices. Players select one of four factions; build their Warbands from hundreds of unique units, and battle other players to secure victory for their faction, and control of Zhentil Keep. A single player campaign allows gamers to practice their tactics and unlock new units.”
So as you can tell by the excerpts from Atari on both games, D&D is going to come our way first by the end of the year, and Roller Coaster Tycoon comes in a close second in the first part of next year. Either of these titles sound like something you guys are going to pick up and play?
