We knew it was coming, we also knew just what the device was. Not only because the head of Samsung Mobile told it was coming but because, the specs and details on the device were leaked straight after so, there’ll be no surprises here however, it is now set in stone. So, as we discovered yesterday, the Galaxy S III Mini is going to be what Samsung is calling a “compact version” of the Galaxy S III. Whilst it doesn’t come with anything anywhere near the power of its bigger brother it’s clear they’re cut from the same cloth. The specs are a little underwhelming if we’re honest but, if Samsung can get this thing priced properly then it could do really well. After all, not everyone wants a super-large phone. Specs wise you can expect the following from this diminutive phone:
- 4.0″ WVGA Super AMOLED
- Dual Core 1GHz
- Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean)
- 5MP + Flash / VGA Front
- 8 or 16GB of Storage with room for MicroSD
- Battery: 1,500 mAh
Honestly I’d have expected a 4.3″ qHD display from Samsung here but, I have a theory on why they’ve gone with such a design and display decision: it’s a Nexus S on steroids. Take a look at that phone and tell me that isn’t a Nexus S dressed up like a Galaxy S III, even the earpiece grill reminds me of the old Nexus and you can’t really blame Samsung when you think about it. If Samsung can push the price down of this then they could have a really effective entry in the mid range market and with Android 4.1 and 4.0 becoming the norm in this market it’s becoming larger and larger.
