Will your Motorola device be one of the chosen? Well, not if it’s older than the Droid Bionic.
There’s been rumblings from Motorola for a while that the company wouldn’t be able to get all of their older releases caught up to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but we weren’t certain exactly which devices would make the cut before today.
Motorola’s first announcement offered up a list of phones that definitely would not receive updates (the left column in the chart below). But, Motorola offered the concession of $100 off a new device (the column on the right) if customers traded in their old devices.
While the initial reaction of Motorola users who feel burned would be to scoff at the offer, the list is certainly attractive enough to consider the upgrade. I know that my phone is on the list that won’t receive Jelly Bean, and $100 off is certainly tempting.
If you have a Motorola device that is getting updated (lucky!), then check out Motorola’s second update with more specific information on exactly when those upgrades will roll out. The newest line of RAZR devices is expected to be on Jelly Bean by the end of the year. The rest of the devices have a more ambiguous schedule.
If your device isn’t being updated, are you willing to consider Motorola’s discount on a new device? Let us know in the comment section.
