Yesterday Google shocked us when they announced a new Chromebook built by Samsung and that it would cost just $250. That’s the same price as the current 16GB Nexus 7 on the Play Store. This new Chromebook wasn’t shabby spec-wise either with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of SSD internally. Google also is giving 100GB of Google Drive space with these new Samsung Chromebooks. On top of all that, we’re getting a Samsung Chromebook with 3G capabilities.
But it’s not all good news on the 3G connectivity front. Your shiny new Chromebook will be tied to Verizon’s 3G for 2-years with a limit of only 100MB. I really don’t think that’s enough data for a machine that basically runs on the internet browser. But we’ll see.
Chrome OS hasn’t really taken off much yet, it seems as if Google has it on a back burner with most of the attention on Android and the rest of their apps like Gmail, Drive, etc. But this new $250 Chromebook could turn many people on to Chrome OS. Hopefully enough people get one so we can see more updates to Chrome OS and really see what a Google desktop OS can do!
Who’s bought or going to buy this new Samsung Chromebook? Let us know in the comments.
