Ever since the Nexus 7 hit the scene we were wondering whether or not Google would make another pure Android tablet at the 10.1″ form factor like they did with Motorola’s XOOM tablet. Now, whilst the XOOM was indeed a “Google Experience Device” it was by far, no Nexus, updates on Verizon’s network took forever and the tablet is always the last to get any update when it comes to devices under Google’s wing. Not to mention that it is getting a little old now. The Nexus 7 was successful not only because of it’s much dsesirable price tag but also because of the improvements that came in Jelly Bean and the additions to the Play Store, making the whole package worthwhile to not just those that will be looking for the latest and greatest in Android but just a good tablet experience.
Google didn’t exactly do stunningly with the launch of Honeycomb and Android tablets last year, they were criticised heavily for a lack of good software and, to some extent the same complaint remains. On the Nexus 7 this isn’t all too much a problem thanks to the 7″ display that is a lot kinder to phone applications. When it comes to the large-screen tablet game, the iPad rules the roost and whilst we’re sure to see an iPad mini of some sort it looks like Google is looking to bring their own fresh tablet experience to market. Or so another leak from Picasa would have us believe.
Recently a user posted a picture to Picasa and in the EXIF data was the model of “NEXUS 10” and the software version revealed as JVP12C. There’s no details on anything else but it at least gives evidence towards a rear-facing camera. We’ve been hearing a lot about a Nexus 10 device and that it could be the rumored Samsung device packing a much desire resolution of 2560×1600 giving it a density of 299ppi as well as the dual-core Exynos 5250. Whether or not this is what a possible Nexus 10 could become it doesn’t look all that unbelievable as we now know that Samsung are ready to ship the new Exynos 5250 based on the Cortex-A15 architecture as it’s at the heart of the latest Samsung Chromebook. I think that a Nexus 10 could be just what Android needs to bring in new developers and usher in a new age of tablet applications for the platform that are sorely needed.
