The Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE, now that’s a mouthful, was the first device released by Motorola to have an unlockable bootloader. It’s about time right? So now that you can unlock the bootloader on the Photon Q, you can do just about anything. That includes flashing custom kernels. Usually the reason why people flash custom kernels are for getting better battery life, Overclocking the Processor, or for faster performance. Myself I usually flash a custom kernel so I can underclock the processor and undervolt the battery. That gives me quite a bit more battery.
XDA Forum Moderator, arrrghhh, has released the first custom kernel for the Photon Q 4G LTE. He’s also the same one that brought CWM and TWRP recoveries to the Photon Q. His kernel should work with all ROMs for the Photon Q, even stock as long as your rooted. arrrghhh’s kernel is overclock-able to 1.89GHz. So if you’re interested in pushing your Photon Q to the limit, flash arrrghhh’s kernel on your device and give it a go. You can get more information, like changelog’s and newer downloads on the XDA thread.
Any Photon Q 4G LTE owners out there running custom ROM’s? Which ones? Let us know in the comments how this kernel works out for you.
