The Nexus 7 was quite easily a breakout success and although a 7 inch tablet is great, a 10 inch can be more preferable. Samsung has been rumored to be the manufacturer behind the Nexus 10 and while many of us thought it would be out by the end of this year, it’s looking like it’ll be set back several months.
According to Brooke Crothers of CNET, the Nexus 10 will be out sometime in the first half of next year. While the term “iPad Killer” has floated around for years and many tablets claiming to be and not living up to the hype, if Samsung is to be working on what’s being said, it could be a pretty impressive tablet.
A delay in releasing the tablet is sure going to hurt sales a little bit with the holidays getting closer, but according to Brooke, that delay may just have to do with working on an entirely new display and implementing a Exynos 5 quad-core processor based on the ARM Cortex-A15.
What could be particularly impressive about the Nexus 10 isn’t necessarily the chipset and speed, but the supposed 2,560 x 1,600 display that Samsung is rumored to have on the tablet. If so, that would bump up the pixel density to just under 300 which is very close to Retina display territory.
On a 10 inch display, we’re talking an amazing picture. Combine that with Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie and we’re looking at quite the machine.
This is all speculation at this point, but if it means a delay until next year for Samsung to pack all this goodness into the Nexus 10, I say let ’em take their time, especially if they can keep the price of the base model to no more than $399.
