LG Nexus 4: Should you get the 8GB or the 16GB? Let's Find Out

So today Google announced the LG Nexus 4. Pricing it at $299 for the 8GB and $349 for the 16GB. Not bad pricing right? Especially given the specs. But when you look at the storage, that’s not much space. Given that my Galaxy Nexus (on Sprint) is the 32GB version, going down to 16GB or 8GB would be a big difference. For me it wouldn’t really be worth it, especially given the amount of time I flash new ROMs and backup old ones. I’d need more space. But which one is right for you? Let’s find out.

The 8GB LG Nexus 4

So who is the 8GB Nexus 4 for? Well I think it’s more for those that just install a few apps. Like maybe a Twitter app, Google+, maybe Facebook, and a game or two. Maybe add in Flipboard or Google Currents. But other than that you won’t have any space. If you have Dropbox installed with the camera auto-upload you should be ok as far as pictures go.

The 16GB LG Nexus 4

The 16GB version may not sound like a big difference. After all it’s only 8GB extra. And you’ll get about 12GB of actual storage for the thing. So if you’re the type that is always on the go and stores a ton of stuff on your phone like music, movies, etc., you’ll need a different device. Perhaps that HTC One X+ with 64GB of space? Or the Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB with a micro SD card slot that supports up to 64GB.

So there you have it. If you’re someone who doesn’t consume a whole lot of media or uses the cloud a lot (like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) the 8GB version might be right for you. And if you consume a small amount of media then the 16GB might be large enough for you. But in the end it’s up to you since you’re the one paying for it.
