The Nexus 4 is hot off announcement and already there’s accessories coming out of the woodwork. Not just any accessories either. Bumper cases. Most people think of cases that cover the entirety of the phone like a gel skin or a hard shell. No one ever plays with the possibility about a bumper case though. Until the iphone 4 came out and its dual sided glass design warranted such a piece of protection equipment. The Nexus 4 is a beautiful piece of phone. Corning Gorilla Glass on both sides and 4.7 inch ips display. With delicate and elegant design features like this, who wouldn’t want to protect their device as best as they can? The problem I see with a lot of cases is that they really make the phone look ugly. If there is one thing I have always appreciated about any nexus device or Samsung Galaxy S is the painstaking design hours that went into making the phone look effortlessly gorgeous.
The nice thing about these bumper cases is that they are designed to protect the phones glass from touching the surface when dropped without sacrificing the sexy look of the phone. I say “when” because it’s going to happen. You know it; I know it, just don’t deny it any longer and accept the reality. The Nexus 4 is not only designed with dual sided glass, but the display is edge to edge. I’m thinking the bumper cases were a really good idea on Google’s part. How do I know that we will have access to bumper cases for the Nexus 4? Well, Google’s Dan Morrill made the announcement on G+. Which is about as straight from the source as it gets. Here’s what he had to say on the matter.
” We’ve actually got some bumpers (ring-like cases that wrap the side but not the back) coming as accessories for Nexus 4, if that’s how you roll.
On the back, there is indeed a small raised ridge, which should prevent scratches if not breaks.”
I always thought the bumper cases looked really good. So I am excited to say the least about this information. To me the phone should still look good while staying protected. And while this style of case will not work for everybody, for the average user, protection from standard drops is all they’ll need. Anyone out there ordering a Nexus 4? And if so will you be paring that purchase with the bumper cases?
