Over here in the UK, phones and their plans are handled a little differently. For the most part this is great for me, as a Brit I constantly annoy my staff with how good my phone network is and while I don’t yet have LTE, my plan is a lot cheaper and unlimited. There a number of phones that come out in the US market that I wish I could get my hands on but sadly, only the vanilla versions make it over here. For months and months I drooled over the original EVO 4G thinking “That is a beast of a phone, I need that!” and yet the best I got was an HTC Desire some time later.
The announcement of today’s Nexus 4 has me pretty excited, it’s only £279 for an unlocked Nexus device with 16GB is really quite impressive, especially for a device with a quad-core S4 Pro and 2GB of RAM. I’m seriously contemplating selling my One X to fund a Nexus 4 purchase, at least partly. The carrier I’m with here in the UK however, might have something else in store for me. O2 UK have secured a month’s worth of exclusivity when the Nexus 4 goes on sale, making it the only carrier to sell the device for the first month it’s on release here in the UK. There’s no word on whether or not the device will still be sold through Google Play at the same time but, I certainly hope so.
There’s also a couple twists to this as well, for instance, if you’re amongst the first 100 customers to buy the device you’ll also score a free LG TV, which is surprising, right? That it’s from LG? No? O2 will also be inviting a select few customers to try their hand at heights and to buy the phone above the OS Arena in London, which used to be the Millenium Dome. Hm, will this make be buy a Nexus 4? No. Will the fact that it’s a pretty damn awesome device get me to buy one? Yepp.
