Well it’s about time HTC. The much anticipated Android 4.1 update is finally heading out to the unlocked (non-carrier branded) HTC One X in Europe, Asia and South America, as I’m writing this post there might be further reports of it hitting other places as well. It appears it’s hitting unlocked HTC One X devices with either CID_038 or CID_044. From the information we have, it appears that the Android 4.1 and Sense 4+ updates is being pushed out in two separate updates. You’ll see a small 1.25-1.6MB file then following will be a 357-364MB Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean Update.
For those that might not be sure which HTC One X they have, you can easily check by downloading and installing a CID app from the Google Play Store. And if you haven’t received the OTA notification yet, you can try grabbing it from HTC’s servers simply follow the directions below:
- Go into Settings
- Tap About
- Tap Software Updates
- Hit Check Now
I know what you’re thinking now. When is the update coming to North America? Specifically the carrier specific devices like Rogers and AT&T which have the HTC One XL due to LTE. Well unfortunately we know how our North American carriers are with updates, and that’s very slow. Since they have to do “testing”. For those on AT&T, you probably won’t see it until right before Christmas or possibly next year. And it probably won’t get bumped up to Android 4.2 which is going to make the wait suck even more. But this update to International unlocked One X’s means that AT&T and Rogers users with the One X should see some more stable Android 4.1 (Sense 4+ based) ROMs coming soon. As long as HTC drops the code soon.
If you were able to get Android 4.1 onto your unlocked HTC One X, let us know in the comments how your liking project butter, Google Now, and expandable notifications. Along with all the other smaller tweaks and features in Android 4.1.
