Android continues on the up and up and thanks to some new data, comparing Q3 2011 to Q3 2012, sales of Android devices have more than doubled. In the third quarter, a massive 122,480,000 devices were sold compared to 60,490,400 in Q3 of last year.
Looking at iOS, they sold 23,550,300 devices this past quarter compared to 17,295,300 in Q3 of last year. Both platforms are on the rise, but it’s very clear that Android is having a massive year thanks to many great devices from many manufacturers.
In fact, Android’s market share compared to the same time last year was at 52.5% and now is at 72.4%, a near 20% increase in market share. Looking at the numbers, it’s very clear why Apple sees Android as a threat and has and is still working hard to get money from them.
When it comes to the largest seller of mobile devices, it was no surprise that Samsung commanded the number one spot in the third quarter with 97,956,800 devices sold. Nokia saw 82,300,600 devices sold and Apple clocked in at third with 23,550,300 sold.
2012 is shaping up to be the biggest year yet for Android and things are only expected to get better from here.
