Oh man, it’s getting pretty nasty in the Apple v Samsung trial. The ITC is getting ready to review a decision which originally sided with Apple back in September. Well today, Samsung’s Mobile Chief offered a reminder to Apple that the patent dispute is very far from being over between these two mobile tech giants.
Samsung’s Head of Mobile and IT, Shin Jong-kyun told the following to Korea Times reporters in Seoul:
“The truth never lies. Without Samsung-owned wireless patents, it’s impossible for the Cupertino-based Apple to produce its handsets,”
“As you know, Samsung is very strong in terms of portfolios of wireless patents.”
These comments from Shin Jong-kyun came across while the US International Trade Commission announced earlier this week that it plans to review a decision of one of its administrative law judges which sided with Apple instead of the Korean mobile giant, Samsung.
Also noted that in August, a jury sided with Apple, and rejected all of Samsung’s claims against the Cupertino company. In which Samsung was to pay $1.05 billion to Apple. Which was a huge victory for Apple, although Apple hasn’t had much for victories outside of the United States against Samsung. In fact the only trials Apple has won over Samsung has been in the US. Making it seem a bit suspicious that Apple did win that trial back in August.
So yes, we do know Samsung has plenty of patents in it’s portfolio, and that Apple does as well. Although Apple has more of the ‘questionable’ patents, like rounded corners, and virtual page flipping which it was just given a few weeks ago. Either way this is going to be a huge war between the two tech giants, and we’ll be here to bring you all the details every step of the way.
