When CyanogenMod introduced us to CM9 which was based off of Ice Cream Sandwich, they showed us a bunch of new tweaks they would put into their ROMs. One of which was the Apollo music player. Which is a beautiful looking holo-themed music player for your device. It works on phones but isn’t yet optimized for tablets, and it’s now available in the Play Store. So you can download and install it without rooting or flashing a custom ROM.
Apollo is available on the Play Store in 2 varieties. Apollo and Apollo+. The Apollo+ comes without ads and offers quicker updates for just $0.99. Which I would purchase it just to help support the CyanogenMod team as they’ve done so much for us in the development world in the past few years. As far as future updates go, the team has a bunch lined up including:
- Tablet support
- Artist and album info
- Concert info
- Sleep timer
- Last.FM scrobbling
- Specify your music folders/directories
- Customizable widgets
- Customizable notification controls
- Google Dream support
And Apollo already has the following features currently:
- Pin album, artist, genre, and playlist shortcuts to your Home screen
- Customizable themes and layouts
- Lyric support
- Mark songs as favorites
- Notification playback controls (Honeycomb+)
- Text and voice search
- Swipe between screens
- Automatic album and artist image fetching
- Headset controls
- Set songs as ringtones
- Lockscreen widgets (Jellybean 4.2+)
- Share currently playing music on Twitter, Facebook, and others
- 4 widgets
- Gapless playback
- Plays most music formats (MP3, AAC, FLAC, etc.)
- Drag & drop playlists and queue
- Lockscreen controls (Ice Cream Sandwich+)
- Local music management (edit, delete, etc.)
I’ll be sticking to Google Music for now, but may have to give Apollo a try again, as I loved that music Player. If you’re one who keeps a lot of music on your phone, you’ll enjoy using Apollo so give it a try. We’ve got the Play Store Link below for you.
Anyone out there ready to download Apollo again? Who’s still on a CyanogenMod ROM? If so, you may want to disable Apollo then install it. Not sure if the current version baked into CM will receive updates or not.
