Since Google purchased Motorola Mobility, they’ve been working to revamp the company at least the mobile division of Motorola Mobility. Then even announced they were making deep cuts, reducing the number of employees by 4,000 and replacing some of the head executives in Motorola’s Mobile division. Now it appears that Motorola Mobility has shut down most of their international sites. Primarily those serving Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
This past Friday, Sina reported the closure of a couple Motorola Asian sites. But if you take a closer look Motorola has closed down a number of their international sites, as part of the restructuring effort that started in August with Motorola Mobility Israel.
When you go to either Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong, or Taiwan’s Motorola websites, and click the “Enter Site” button that is in red, you’ll see the message below:
We are streamlining our business and support systems, and unfortunately, we’ll no longer have a dedicated website for Rest of Europe.
Your local support sites Eastern Europe Western Europe Northern Europe will remain open, well into the future, and we’ll continue to provide support for our products.
If you are interested in viewing our current products, you can still do so,here.*
In the last sentence above, there’s an asterisk at the end, that points to the fine print that helps explain Motorola’s problems:
“Products on these sites are not guaranteed to be available in your country.”
So looks like not only did Motorola have to many not-so-good products but they couldn’t get the good stuff to the customers who wanted them.
This move came as a bit of a shock to quite a few people, but it’s not really a surprise. We all know how badly Motorola is doing currently. And with their reputation over the past year or two before Google’s acquisition completed did not help. Although Punit Soni and the rest of the exec’s over at Motorola Mobility are working hard to change that. Which is becoming evident with the Droid Razr M Jelly Bean update, and the Droid Razr HD and Maxx HD updates on their way very soon.
Google has said on a number of occasions that they bought Motorola for their patent portfolio. So they can help fight the Apple battle with Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola and the rest of the Android manufacturers. So are you surprised that Motorola closed down these websites?
