I’ve been playing with Android 4.2 over the past few days, and noticed a weird bug in the People app. If you try to add a birthday/event to the contact the date picker comes up as it naturally should. But something you’ll notice there is that it goes from November to January. Uh what happened to December? Guess Google isn’t a huge fan of Christmas or any of the other holidays in December. The issue has been reported to Google by many people, so we are expecting to see Android 4.2.1 pretty soon.
Now this bug doesn’t just affect the Nexus 4, but also the Nexus 7 and 10. So it should also affect the Galaxy Nexus, although I cannot confirm that as mine hasn’t been updated to Android 4.2 yet. But before you get to worried, Google Calendar is still fine. Google left December in the Calendar, they just don’t want anybody to have a birthday in December.
This leaves us all wondering, how did this happen? Google is a huge company, and I’m sure they had quite a few employees testing Android 4.2 before they actually announced it. Even when they announced it they still had like 2 weeks to get it fixed before the OTA’s pushed out and the new Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 went on sale. On another note, this could affect other apps that use the date picker. But we haven’t been able to confirm that as of right now. But on this one, Google can’t claim that it’s a feature and not a bug. Because this is indeed a bug.
Hopefully we’ll see an update to Android 4.2 within a few days to fix this bug, and of course some others we may not have found yet. Has anyone else noticed December is missing in the People app? Let us know in the comments if you think Google is trying to cancel Christmas, or avoid December 21, 2012.
