There’s something about strategy games that are pretty addictive, they come in many different forms and are often tied to some pretty weird things however, if one thing’s certain, strategy games work well on mobile devices. Thanks to the increasing screen size and, more importantly, quality of mobile displays there’s no better place to command an incursion from than your pocket. Tower defence is a type of game that has risen to high popularity these past couple years and for good reason, it’s a lot of fun and simple enough for play on the go. Read on to find out if Defenders’ Creed is something to keep you entertained on the go.

Description: Defenders’s Creed is a game set in the time of The 3 Kingdoms and the gameplay takes place in the defence of China. It’s a game that gets you planning and requires some forward thinking in order to keep those city walls standing. There’s no need to think of this as yet another Plants VS Zombies as there’s a lot of unique until progression and upgrades that are present here to make a very unique game. It’s a simple strategy game that’s easy to play but very difficult to master. Take a look at the trailer below to get more of a feel for the game:

How it Works: Getting the game is as simple as installing the game from the Play Store, it’s only a 19MB download and there’s no further download after that so don’t worry if you’re away from WiFi

As you can see there are two difficulties, the Hard difficulty is locked at launch so let’s just go ahead and take a look at Normal. What’s really brilliant about the game is that there’s a fully fledge tutorial built into the game that will tell you how to play as you learn:

After that it will let you know where and how to place something essential for any battlefield: food and supplies.

Whenever you touch a square on the field, you can either choose to play food or a soldier and your choice should depend on how much of each you already have out on the playing area.

Managing your playing field is important as soldiers can help improve your supplies and work together as a combined unit:

When the enemy forces start to roll in, the soldiers you have on the field will start to attack those in their line of sight but, make sure that they don’t get too close to the city walls or you’re going to lose the game:

There are a number of ways that you can help to keep the evil at bay, one of them is using your soldiers’ special skills

If you’re successful then you’ll protect the city and keep the opposing forces away from your kingdom however, if you lose, the game has no qualms with calling it for what it is:

Of course this is just one small part of the game to whet your appetite, if you want to see how things change and how it gets better then you’re better off going ahead and installing the game to see if you’re cut out to be a General or not!

Opinion: I quite like strategy games and while I can’t say that thrill me or anything, I think they’re best suited to a touchscreen environment as it makes it a whole lot easier to interact with what you’re seeing on the display and brings a new dynamic to the playing field. It might not be the most advanced of games but Defenders’ Creed is a good title that fans of games like Shogun will enjoy. It’s quick, simple and easy to get a strategy game played on the go thanks to the light nature of the game. I’ve enjoyed my time with the game and will be recommending it to others.

• Speed (4/5) – The game installed and loads quickly, game is well paced to suit its genre.
• Features (3/5) – While there is a lot of options to improve units that are out there in the field it’s perhaps not all that clear what to do with them.
• Theme (4/5) – It might not be the most stunning game but, Defenders’ Creed has got a good look to it and a good amount of charm as well.
• Overall (4/5) – Getting used to the gameplay might be easy but learning how to master different units can be tricky but, in the end its worth it.
