The Galaxy Tab line of tablets from Samsung has had a strange history so far and while it might have started out as what critics pinned as a phone dressed up as a tablet, the line has come a long way. Thankfully, one of the biggest things that Samsung has done with the line is learned to cut down on screen sizes and make them a little more affordable. This year we’ve only seen three Galaxy Tabs from Samsung and I think that’s a good thing, we’ve got a 7-inch offering in the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, the obligatory 10.1 version and the Note 10.1 brings something new to the overall line up. This is a smart move by Samsung after the amount of models they pushed out last year. We had the 7.0, 7.0 Plus, 7.7, 8.9, 10.1 – far too many for one line of tablets.
With the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 they presented a cost effective tablet running Ice Cream Sandwich that might not have packed the best technology it certainly held the bar up and brought the same Samsung quality we’ve come to expect. The Galaxy Tab 2 comes with a dual-core 1 Ghz CPU, 1GB of RAM and a 1024 x 600 display, which doesn’t sound all that promising after the Nexus 7 launched but, with the additions of two cameras and an SD card slot, the little guy still has some go left in him. If you don’t mind TouchWiz and would like to buy from a larger pool of accessories then the Tab 2 offers a good alternative.
Today, the tablet is getting treated to Jelly Bean, it’s only the 4.1 variety and we know that the Nexus 7 has been enjoying it for some time now but there are a lot of tablets out there that are packing Ice Cream Sandwich. Samsung have had a good year when it comes to updates and have shown the rest of the industry how it’s done.
The update file comes in at a pretty large 705 MB so, bear that in mind when downloading it. Jelly Bean has started to roll out to those in France and while that’s not terribly good news for the rest of the world, it does come with all European languages so if you’re in Europe, you’re in luck! For those of you in the States, I don’t think you’ll have to wait too long for an Official update from Samsung.
