Here we go with another bug for Android 4.2 – Jelly Bean. First the December bug, and then several other bugs. Actually this one might be a Google Talk bug rather than a Android 4.2 bug. Nonetheless it’s still a bug we have to tell you about. It seems as if in Android 4.2, Google Talk will not allow you to sign in with different email addresses. Weird right? In fact that’s not even a new feature in Android 4.2 so it looks like the Android team broke it in the latest release.
It appears that in Google Talk you can sign out of your account, but you can’t sign into a different account. You can only sign into the account specified as the “owner” of the device. So you know that account you sign into in the beginning of the setup of your device? That is classified as the owner account. In fact when you try to login using a different account you get this message “This version of Talk can be used only by the owner of the device.” On most phones this probably isn’t a problem, but when you get to tablets like the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 it can be a real problem.
This problem has already been reported to Google numerous times, starting on November 16th which was just 3 days after OTA’s of Android 4.2 started and 3 days after it hit AOSP. We are pretty sure Google is aware of this. In fact the post on the Android Google Code Site has a total of 135 stars. Google has already said they are working on a fix for the December issue, so we are expecting Android 4.2.1 pretty soon. But will this Google Talk bug be fixed in that update? What about the battery drainage and extremely slow charging issues? Hopefully Google addresses all of these concerns and bugs in the next update which is due out any day now.
Are there any other bugs we haven’t reported about that you’ve noticed? Let us know in the comments.
