HTC is set to potentially upset some users after refining their upgrade requirements for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Among the requirements, if your phone has 512MB RAM, you won’t be getting an upgrade. This is pretty disappointing considering two HTC devices, the Desire C and One V were released this year and owners will now be left in the dark.
This is because phones with only 512MB RAM can’t run 4.1 Jelly Bean, right? Nope. It seems more along the lines of HTC just doesn’t want to put in the effort to upgrade the other devices and focus elsewhere. As our very own Tom Dawson pointed out, “How much RAM does the Nexus S have? 512MB. What does the Nexus S run? Jelly Bean 4.1.”
Aside from the HTC One X and One S which will for sure be getting the upgrade, the company has been quiet about their update schedule. Phones such as the Desire X and Desire SV have 768MB of RAM and what about phones from last year such as the Sensation, EVO 3D, and Rezound?
HTC has done a fairly poor job of communicating and customers who’s devices are more than capable of running Jelly Bean, shouldn’t be left in the dark. Even if an upgrade is a bit away, they should at least get some idea of when they can expect an upgrade. And as far as not upgrading phones that were released this year, shame on them.
