Verizon’s newest beast on their shelves, the HTC Droid DNA has been out for just over a week. Nine days to be exact. The Droid DNA is the first 1080p display in the US, although we’ve heard quite a few rumors lately of more devices coming with 1080p displays at CES or Mobile World Congress early next year. And the bootloader has already been successfully unlocked. Now HTC has released source code the Droid DNA on their HTCdev website.
The source code is based on Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean. They’ve released the kernel source and a few other parts of open-source that is incorporated in the Droid DNA. So we should be seeing some good kernels coming out soon for the DNA. With the beastly hardware that the Droid DNA has already, some custom Kernels should be able to make the Droid DNA even more of a beast than it already is. As a reminder, here are the specs of the HTC Droid DNA:
- 5-inch Super LCD3 1080p display at 441PPi
- Quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro (same processor as the Nexus 4)
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB internal storage; No micro SD card support
- 8MP rear-facing camera; 2.1MP front-facing camera
- Wi-Fi, DLNA, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE connectivity
- Android 4.1 and Sense 4+
So as you can see it is a beast of a device. It already flies on the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM on Sense 4+, not just imagine how it would fly with an AOSP build installed like CM10? It’s going to fly. Now add in a nice and smooth kernel. It’ll be hands down the best device on Verizon, which it already currently is.
It’s great to see OEM’s like HTC open-sourcing their code like they should. And not delaying it until who knows when. This is a good step to get HTC back in the game with Samsung as being one of the top Android manufacturers.
Who has the Droid DNA? And who has already flashed a custom ROM or thinking about flashing one? Let us know in the comments below.
