While the Optimus G has only just launched on AT&T and Sprint here in the states. This hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from running a muck with rumors of the Optimus G2. It’s a little strange to be hearing of a follow up to a phone that has barely launched but, this is pretty normal of LG, the Korean company has had a habit of making model after model of phones, with reckless abandon. It’s something that hasn’t necessarily worked out for LG but, in the same vein, how else are they to keep up with their close rival, Samsung? The rumor mill has already started when it comes to Samsung’s Galaxy S IV and the main rumor is that it’s going to be a quad-core Exynos based on Cortex-A15 and will come packing a 4.99″ display, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080.
The Optimus G2 is said to be launching in May of 2013 – a date that has actually been moved up – but the phone was originally slated for release in the second half of 2013 however, LG can’t be beaten by Samsung. The company will be unhappy indeed, to let Samsung have all the limelight next Spring. When it comes to specs, the rumor is that the Optimus G2 is going to be packing some serious heat and that it will – possibly – come with the following specs:
- 5-inch Full HD 1920 x 1080 Display (440 ppi)
- A 2 Ghz Quad-Core Snapdragon S4 Prime (MSM8974)
- 2GB of RAM
- Unconfirmed storage
- A low-power 4G LTE chip
- Android Key Lime Pie (5.0) is tipped be running on the device but, we doubt it and think it could be more like Jelly Bean 4.2
The new phone is said to be another close collaborative effort – as the Optimus G was – between LG and its subsidaries such as LG Display and LG Innotek. The rumor comes out of MK Korean Business News and it may well carry some weight, one thing’s for sure though: if Samsung are doing it, then so too, are LG. It’s a shame to put it that way but the two of them have been competing in the space like siblings for a few years now and with LG coming out on top recently, the fight is only going to get hotter and hotter.
