Chinese manufacturers aren’t generally known to make great high-end Android devices. Usually when you hear of new smartphones made by Chinese manufacturers they are clone’s or knock-offs, right? Well the Meizu MX2 is looking to change that thought. So has Huawei, Xiaomi and ZTE recently with their latest beasts, like the Huawei Ascend D2.
The newly announced Meizu MX2 has some pretty great specs at the very nice looking $400 price tag. The specs include:
- 4.4″ 1280×800 resolution “gapless display”
- 3.15mm bezel
- 1.6GHz Quad-core Processor (it’s a Samsung processor so should be a good one)
- 2GB of RAM
- 8MP rear-facing camera; 2MP front facing camera
- MHL Video out
- 16/32/64GB of internal storage
- HSPA+, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS
- Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean
So for a $400 device, not bad at all in terms of specs. Sure the screen is a bit small, but not everyone wants or needs a 4.7″ or larger display these days. I see tons of comments on our Google+ posts about the Note 2 that say that device is just too big for them.
This device is also heavily customized by Meizu. Their custom skin is called “Flyme” and Flyme 2.0 looks a lot like MIUI, the popular custom ROM that began in China. But the good news here is that you can easy root and flash custom ROMs if you don’t like Flyme 2.0 for some odd reason. So typical Android device right?
The MX2 is going to be available in China beginning mid-December. The prices are:
- ¥2,499 ($400) for the 16GB
- ¥2,999 ($480) for the 32GB
- ¥3,999 ($640) for the 64GB
So not bad pricing either all things considered. We have no idea if the MX2 will be making its way out of China into other markets. But our guess is that it’ll stay in China and if you want it in Europe or even the US you’ll have to import it which can get very costly.
So are there any takers for the Meizu MX2? Let us know in the comments.
