Every time there is a new launch of Android, there are always bugs and when there is new hardware introduced the problems just keep piling up. Often with Android, we’ve had to deal with poor battery life and other such bugs but nothing too bizarre, the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 introduced a whole new sort of bug – ridding contacts of December Birthdays.
When the news broke that there was a bug in the 4.2 build of Android that omitted December from the People app, there was a little concern over how such a small bug could have been let through Google’s testing. Well, perhaps nobody at Google has a Birthday in December? Whatever the reason, the bug is there and Google came clean and expressed that there is a fix on its way. It looks like that fix is here now, as some users are reporting that the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4 are getting the update to 4.2.1 which fixes the issue. TalkAndroid are reporting that a Nexus 10 of theirs has gotten an update to the latest point release of Android.
The update size varies between the Nexus 10 and the Nexus 4, we assume that different bugs are addressed for each device. It also looks like the Nexus 7 is getting on the update fun as well. There’s talk of improvements to battery life as well as fixes to some Bluetooth glitches.. It’s good to see that Google are releasing such a quick fix for the strange problem, especially when the bug shouldn’t really have been there in the first place.
With both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 getting the update to Android 4.2.1 it brings the latest Nexus devices up-to-date and is certainly a fast turnaround, if anything it’s a shining example of the Nexus program. Personally, I think this is how all updates should be handled – regardless of carrier – if you can’t trust the manufacturer to push out an update then who the hell can you trust?
