Who doesn’t want some CyanogenMod 10.1? Well over the past few days, CyanogenMod has been posting on their Google+ profile what devices have CM 10.1 working already. And today, they posted the Nexus 4 a.k.a. Mako, and nightlies are available starting today! So for those of us that were lucky enough to grab a Nexus 4 already, we can now get off stock Android 4.2 and get some CyanogenMod back in our life. About time too. Here’s the full post:
The new Nexus
We noticed a few random third-parties building CM10.1 for the new Nexus devices, and people actually using those builds… 🙂
Since there’s a demand for it, today we’ve started rolling out nightly builds for themako (Nexus 4) at http://get.cm/?device=mako , and the manta (Nexus 10) will join in as soon as it’s ready. The rest of the devices will still be getting 10.0 (Android 4.1) builds until we finish merging 4.2 and flip the switch for everybody.

For those that don’t know what CyanogenMod is, it’s a custom package of firmware or a custom ROM that is basically stock Android with some nice tweaks. Like toggles in the notification bar, adding new on-screen buttons, and many more customizations. It also comes with a built-in updater, since CM releases updates almost daily (well nightly) there will be plenty of updates coming. But best of all it comes with a custom kernel which can be underclocked to get better battery life.
It’s important that we do remind you this is a nightly, and the first Android 4.2 nightly from CyanogenMod. No other device has official CM 10.1 yet, although the Nexus 10 (manta) is getting it later on today or tonight. All other devices are still getting CM 10.0 a.k.a. Android 4.1 builds until the team completes merging. As a nightly there will be bugs found in it. So if you can’t handle a few bugs, you’ll want to wait for a stable version to come out which might be a few weeks from now.

Update: Official Gapps for Android 4.2 are now available. Make sure you flash these along with the ROM.
