We’ve been hearing for some time now that 1080p displays are going to become the standard for high-resolution displays come 2013 – just like 720p displays were this year. In fact, it seems to be already starting with the release of the Droid DNA on Verizon – packing a 5″ 1920 x 1080 display, a quad-core CPU and 2GB of RAM into a phone has turned quite a few heads out there. Now, it looks like the rest of the world is looking to get in on the Full HD game, Oppo are bringing the Find 5 with a quad-core CPU to China next month. Yes, I know, another phone for China. It’s depressing to see such great hardware getting rolled out in the Orient alone but, it’s interesting to see just how good the Chinese market are getting at pushing the boundaries when it comes to power and performance.
With the Oppo Find 5 you can expect the following specs:
- Full HD LCD Display 1920 x 1080 – 440 ppi
- Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro – the same CPU that’s in the Droid DNA and Nexus 4
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB of Onboard storage
- Dual SIM, one for GSM and the other for GSM with 3G
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
So, here’s another phone coming from China that is pretty awesome but, also something that we’re not likely to see. If you’re looking to import the phone however – which wouldn’t be too crazy an idea – it’ll only work on 850/1900/2100 Mhz so take that into account. Also, there’s no LTE here and it is around $600 from a straight conversion. I think it all depends on whether or not you’re desperate for that amount of pixels in your life, if you think you could live without them then, it’s probably better to go for the Nexus 4 – it’s unlocked and works really well throughout most of the US. For my friends in Europe, this phone doesn’t support the 900 Mhz band so your 3G will pretty patchy at very best and likely to suck while indoors.
I’m interested to hear what you all think of manufacturers coming out of China, do they have what it takes or is it all just numbers and figures in another “made in China” shell?
