One of the biggest Kickstarter projects in the history of Kickstarter, Ouya. Which is “a new kind of video game console” had over 63,416 backers pledging over 8.5 million to this project. A lot of people have been waiting to get their hands on their new Ouya console. Today they updated their Kickstarter page to say that the consoles will be shipping on time, and that it’ll be available alongside the SDK on December 28th. So it looks like for those of you that did pledge the project, you’ll be getting your console either late this year or early next year.

This will be the first batch of units going out to the backers, will be going out well before their original delivery which was slated for March of 2013. The new video gaming console got a ton of attention over the summer. Mainly because of it’s $99 price point, hackability, attractive design, and it’s running Android 4.1 – Jelly Bean.

The team said on its’ Kickstarter page that consoles will be leaving the factory on December 28th, and should be in users hands within the next couple of days. Although Turkey and Russia will take a bit longer though. These are developer consoles and an early version of the Ouya Console. Which are for developers to test their games on Ouya before the consoles go out to the general public. Makes sense right?

They also spoke about the ODK (Ouya Development Kit) and its being tested now. Once these consoles ship to developers and gamemakers, anyone will be able to get their hands on the ODK, and get help in the Ouya forums and eventually upload games to Ouya. Sounds pretty exciting right?
