It’s time for yet another phone war. This time we are pinning the almighty Samsung Galaxy S III with that quad-core Exynos processor (unless you’ve got a US variant), against the newest Google flagship device with Android 4.2, the Google Nexus 4 built by LG. With the reputation of both Samsung and LG, you’d think Samsung would win hands down, but will they? We’ll see.
Specifications
Google Nexus 4
The Google Nexus 4 has been in the news a lot lately. It was announced last week by Google and LG, and it’ll be available on November 13for purchase from the Google Play Store unlocked, or T-Mobile with a 2-year contract. The Nexus 4 will be shipping with the newest version of Android, version 4.2 which is still Jelly Bean. The device is also crazy cheap so almost anyone can pick one up.
Pro’s
- It’s a Nexus, meaning it will always be running the most current version of Android, and get updated by Google almost instantly
- Blazing fast quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor
- Photo Sphere; A cool new Camera feature introduced in Android 4.2
- 2GB of RAM to allow for better multi-tasking
Con’s
- No expandable storage
- Non-removable battery
- Only available in 8GB and 16GB variations
- No LTE, for those that need LTE connectivity
Samsung Galaxy S III
When Samsung released the Galaxy S III they did something amazing. They were able to launch the device on five carriers in the US at the same time with the same specs. Now at the time this was released, LTE did not work on quad-core processors like the Exynos 4412. So in the US we were stuck with a dual-core Snapdragon processor which is still plenty fast. Other than the processor, it’s the same device as our international friends were able to pick up.
Pro’s
- Beautiful 4.8″ Super AMOLED display
- Expandable storage (up to 64GB) maxing out at 96GB!
- Removable battery
Con’s
- Still on Android 4.0, in other area’s it’s on Android 4.1. But still under the carrier’s commands
- Stuck with Touchwiz on top of Android 4.0 – Ice Cream Sandwich
Winner?
We’ve got two beasts here, so who would win? On one hand you have a pure Google device, the way Android should be. Then on the other you’ve got the Galaxy S III with a huge beautiful display along with great tweaks from Samsung. Undoubtedly the winner is the Google Nexus 4. Mostly because it is running more current software than the Galaxy S III. Unfortunately the Galaxy S III is still running Ice Cream Sandwich, which is over a year old now. But it’s still a great device and it’s available on more carriers than the Nexus 4, so at the end of the day it’s up to you, the buyer!
