Welcome back to another edition of Phone Wars, this time we have two new Verizon Android phones going at it. Both of these devices are considered flagship devices and have some killer specs. In one corner we’ve got the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD with it’s huge 3300mAh battery that promises to last 32 hours of talk time. Then in the other corner we’ve got the beast. The one and only Samsung Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8″ display with a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. Who’s going to come out on top? Let’s dive in and start with the spec’s.
Specifications
Samsung Galaxy S3
The Galaxy S3 is probably one of the most anticipated phones of the year, right behind Google’s new Nexus. Announced this summer for all of the major US carriers, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and US Cellular, Samsung was looking to make a splash and take it to Apple. The Galaxy S3 has a beautiful 4.8″ Super AMOLED display which especially looks great while watching a video on YouTube or Netflix.
Pros:
- 4.8″ screen is just plain beautiful
- dual-core Snapdragon S4 with 2GB of RAM giving you everything you need to multi-task even better
- Pop up Play feature; allowing you to watch a video while replying to a text, sending a tweet and more.
- S Voice, S Memo, and many more Samsung apps that make the Galaxy S3 a great device
Cons:
- Users may not enjoy Touchwiz, and prefer Stock Android, Sense, or something different
- Price; starting at $599 off contract. Might be to expensive for some looking to keep unlimited data.
Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD
If you owned the original Droid Razr Maxx, then you probably know how great the battery life was. The Droid Razr Maxx HD steps that up just a bit more. Even with the larger display, the battery life is still amazing. Motorola has really laid off the bloat and custom UI in their newer phones that shipped with Android 4.0 and above. Most times it looks identical to stock Android, which is great for Android purists such as myself. But then there’s the update thing. Looking at the past Motorola has taken a very long time in updating their devices to recent versions of Android. We’re hoping that’ll change with the Google-owned Motorola. But let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the devices’ advantages and disadvantages.
Pros:
- Battery Life; Should last close to two days straight, even on LTE
- Near Stock Android
- Affordable; Even if you can’t afford the Droid Razr Maxx HD at $299, there’s the Droid Razr HD for $199
Cons:
- Not a huge upgrade over the original Razr and Razr Maxx, but still a great phone
- Not a quad-core device; the Razr Maxx HD isn’t a slouch, but the Note 2 can easily outperform it.
Winner…
This was a tough decision, and came to a conclusion that it’s a tie. And the winner all depends on the user case. So if you’re one that’s always on the go and needs a battery that can last longer than your day, the Droid Razr Maxx HD is for you. But if you’re someone who needs all the features from Samsung, that is in the Galaxy S3. Then the Galaxy S3 is your winner.
