Sony aren’t doing all that well these days and I assume it’s down to the lack of the American Market to help bolster sales. In the US Sony are only really a presence on one carrier: AT&T and that’s not good news if you’re drowning in debt like Sony are right now. It’s one thing to release good looking phones with good quality cameras but it looks like Sony is struggling when it comes to delivering a solid, all round smartphone. They came pretty close with the recent launch of the Xperia TL on AT&T for the launch of the latest James Bond film; Skyfall. The Xperia TL is a middling device with a dual-core 1.5 Ghz Snapdragon S4 and a 4.5″ HD Display and was released just in time to tie in with the new Bond release.
The Japanese phone manufacturer has pulled another marketing stunt and dipped the Xperia P in gold, making a gold bullion out of a smartphone. Now, in case you’re wondering what the Xperia P is, let’s take a look at the specs:
- 4″ qHD at 960 x 540
- Android 2.3 – Updated to ICS
- Dual-Core 1Ghz Processor
- 1GB RAM
- 16GB storage
- Otherwise available in red, black and silver
- 1305 mAh
So, the Xperia P really isn’t the best phone that Sony could have coated in gold but, it does look pretty nice and this is the sort of thing that will go down well with celebrities so, perhaps we might see Kanye West buying Kim Kardashian a gold Xperia P for Christmas? When you think about it though, they could have made the Xperia TL a gold edition and call it the Golden Gun edition, I think it’d go down well with the movie going public and yet Sony are still intent to make sure we know their mid-range offerings are the best on the market, what do you think, do you think that Sony should bring us a Golden Gun edition of the Xperia TL?
