A lot of the time, we question when we’re going to be seeing an update for a handset and, if you just so happen to be on Verizon that could vary between a long time, and forever. When it comes to Big Red’s flagship Droid RAZR line though, it looks like they’re trying their best to keep them up-to-date. Of course, it’s been a while that these devices have been running Ice Cream Sandwich – Android 4.0 – which was a little strange considering the device launched when Jelly Bean was out in the wild but, we can’t really expect too much of Verizon now can we?
There was a Jelly Bean update for the phones that leaked at the beginning of the month and now it looks like like the update is coming to the devices for real starting from next week. Which is pretty good timing on Big Red’s part when you think about it – folks will be headed to buy smartphones at Christmas and getting the most up-to-date one you can is a real boon. With this update Verizon can show that the Droid RAZR duo of phones is one worth going for if you’re happy with their network. With the Droid DNA being launched with Jelly Bean there’s more reason to update their flagship Droid RAZR pairing.
It’s not just an update to Android 4.1.1 that Verizon are bringing here either, there’s a whole number of bug fixes and stability issues that are stamped out with this latest firmware update. For instance Verizon are promising better voice and data connectivity. With this being a Verizon device, there’s also some added bloatware, Verizon video is now included in the build and the Color app as well. Perhaps the most notable change is the inclusion of the Amazon App Store, making Verizon’s deal with Amazon look like a regular thing. I can’t say that I’d welcome such a change in a device I own but, we suppose that it’s not the end of the world.
Verizon have said that the update will start next week and you should start to see some notifications then, I’m sure a lot of people are looking forward to this, am I right?
