Actually pretty surprised it took this long. But it appears that the T-Mobile USA website has now sold out of the Nexus 4. You may remember the Nexus 4 was on sale for about 30 minutes here in the US before it sold out from the Play Store. The same thing happened in both Australia and the United Kingdom when the Nexus 4 went on sale in those regions of the world.
For those unaware, T-Mobile USA was selling the Nexus 4 for $199 on a 2-year contract or $499 off-contract for the 16GB version, which is a much higher price than that on the Play Store. As you now, Google was selling the 8GB Nexus 4 for $299 and the 16GB for $349 unlocked. But for those that were unable to pick up the Nexus 4 from the Play Store, some were getting impatient waiting for Google to restock, especially after the 3-week back order notice hit. So some decided to go and buy it from T-Mobile anyways. Hence why they are sold out now. The Nexus 4 does also work on T-Mobile’s DC-HSPA+ network which can pick up theoretical speeds up to 42mbps. Now the highest I’ve gotten is 25mbps. So while the Nexus 4 doesn’t have LTE, it still is quite capable of streaming HD content from YouTube, Netflix and other streaming apps.
We also noticed recently that Google has updated the sold out page of the Nexus 4 to urge people to head to T-Mobile to buy their Nexus 4, as shown in the screenshot above. While we wait for T-Mobile and Google to restock their Nexus 4s, there is a chance that some T-Mobile stores might still have the Nexus 4 in stock. But before you head out to one of them, we urge you to call ahead and see so you don’t waste your time and gas in the case they don’t have any.
Did anyone pay full price at T-Mobile for the Nexus 4? Who was able to pick one up from Google Play before they sold out? We talked about this on the podcast this week, but the whole ordering process with Google Play was a disaster. That’s all I’m going to say. You can see a full rant if you watch this past week’s podcast.
